What is SETA? S.E.T.A. stands for Student Education Technology Association and we extend a warm invitation to all pre-service teachers, K-12 teachers, and faculty to join us on February 23, 2002 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at College of Saint Mary in Omaha for the first SETA conference. What will it offer me? College of Saint Mary, the Nebraska Catalyst Project and the Nebraska Education Technology Association (NETA) are encouraging, supporting, and funding SETA. Attendance and/or participation in the conference will provide knowledge of how to use technology in the classroom and an opportunity for undergraduates to make professional presentations, which will provide professional materials to include in a portfolio. What are the goals of SETA? SETA is designed to offer pre-service teachers the opportunity to get together to share technology lessons, ideas, and experiences that can be added to their growing toolboxes of knowledge preparing them for careers as teachers. Experienced professionals will attend and participate to offer positive feedback and ideas to the teachers of tomorrow. What kinds of activities can I participate in or present? The main focus of SETA is for pre-service teachers to create and present learning and teaching activities voluntarily or as a class project, that incorporate technology. The activities can vary from poster sessions to hands-on workshops. Those interested in conducting workshops are strongly encouraged to submit plans early to assure necessary accommodations. Activities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Internet tools and resources
- Efficient use of the Internet
- Lesson plans
- Software applications
- WebQuests
- Treasure Hunts
- Digital photography
- iMovies / streaming video
- Electronic portfolios
- Technology assessment and assessment through technology
- Multimedia presentations and lessons
College of Saint Mary is well equipped and able to provide accommodations, equipment and technical support for the event. Computer stations will be available for the convenience of checking email between sessions. Who do I contact to participate? To participate please take a moment and fill out the online registration form. Although we originally had a \\$5.00 registration fee for anyone not presenting at the conference, this fee has been dropped! At this time there is no charge to attend the conference. There will be a charge for onsite registration the day of the conference. If you have any other questions or concerns please refer them to kcutchall@students.csm.edu We at SETA appreciate your support by encouraging and offering your students incentives to participate in what we hope will become an annual tradition.
